Hayes (2002) and Dan Forsman (1985). • Australia’s Jason Day, who is making his first start as a professional this week at the John Deere Classic, fired rounds of 71-69—140 to make the cut on the number. Day (tied for 68th) was a Sponsor Exemption into the tournament and one was one three Sponsor Exemptions to make the cut along with Billy Hurley III (tied for 57th) and Mike Small (tied for 57th). • Paul Stankowski is playing in the 14th and last tournament of his Major Medical Extension exemption. To date this season, he has earned $168,437 of the $180,390 ($11,953 shy) he needed to be able to play out of that category for the remainder of the year. He made the cut at 3-under 139, one above the cut line with rounds of 72-67 and will need to finish no worse than a two-way tie for 46th in order to remain in his current category. • Steve Jones made his 11th consecutive cut at the John Deere Classic after rounds of 67-68 left him in a tie for ninth. Jones won the event in 1998 when it was played at Oakwood CC. • Glen Day made his seventh consecutive cut in seven starts at the John Deere Classic. He has made the cut every year since the tournament moved to the TPC Deere Run in 2000. Kevin Sutherland made his sixth consecutive cut in six starts at the event. • Pat Perez was forced to withdraw after five holes during the second round due to elbow tendonitis. He posted a 1-under 70 on Thursday. Andrew Magee also withdrew after nine holes during round two due to an injury. • After four players hit all 14 fairways during round one, four more did so during round two -- Greg Kraft, Jeff Maggert, John Rollins and Heath Slocum. Scott Gump and Omar Uresti lead the tournament at the halfway point having missed just one of 28 fairways each. • There were four bogey-free rounds on during Friday’s second round -- Heath Slocum, Ryan Moore, Kevin Sutherland and Steve Elkington. John Huston opened the tournament with 34 holes without a bogey prior to his bogey on the par-4 eighth hole. • In the John Deere Classic Birdies for Charity program, there were a total of 534 birdies on Friday to go along with the 591 birdies posted on Thursday to bring the three-day total to 1,326. There were 201 during Wednesday’s Pro-Am. |
