Playing in his 22nd PGA TOUR event since his last victory, Vijay Singh is looking to end the drought -- he has not won since the 2005 Buick Open. Singh is a two-time past champion of the Barclays Classic with a total of six top-10s in 13 previous starts. Vijay Singh has not finished among the top 25 in his last four starts, the first time he had posted four consecutive finishes outside the top 25 since 2000 when he had five consecutive -- WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship (tied for 33rd), Doral-Ryder Open (tied for 36th), Honda Classic (tied for 50th), Bay Hill Invitational (tied for 29th) and THE PLAYERS Championship (tied for 33rd. Despite this sub-par string of tournaments, Singh went on to win his next start -- at the Masters Tournament.

David Howell 36-hole statistics: David Howell has never been a leader/co-leader through 36 holes -- but he has a good record of playing on the weekend with at least a share of the lead on the European Tour, winning four times in eight events with the 36-hole lead/co-lead, including the BMW Championship two weeks ago. Brad Faxon extended his consecutive cut streak at the Barclays Classic to 18. Faxon has made 19 of 22 cuts at Westchester in his career dating back to 1984. His 22nd career start in 2006 is tied with Ben Crenshaw for fourth all-time, and his 19th career cut at Westchester Country Club matches Jay Haas for most made cuts at the event. Steve Elkington extended his streak to 15 consecutive at Westchester Country Club. The streak includes the 2000 season when he made the cut but was forced to withdraw due to injury. Overall, he has made 16 cuts in 18 starts at Westchester CC. There were seven bogey-free rounds on Friday: Vijay Singh, Luke Donald, Frank Lickliter II, Ryuji Imada, Sean O’Hair, Peter Lonard and Jeff Overton. Rookie Jeff Overton posted a double-eagle on No. 18 as he holed out with a fairway wood from 239 yards after a 294-yard drive. It was the fourth in tournament history and the third of the 2006 PGA TOUR season.
Double-eagles at the Barclays Classic: Charles Howell III recorded a hole-in-one on the par-3 6th hole with a 9-iron from 148 yards, the 12th ace of the 2006 PGA TOUR campaign. Rocco Mediate withdrew after three holes on Friday due to a back injury. Vance Veazy withdrew after his first round due to a wrist injury. Sergio Garcia withdrew after nine holes on Friday due to a back injury (see statement). Bubba Dickerson withdrew after nine holes Friday for undisclosed reasons. Goosen extended his PGA TOUR consecutive cut streak to 19 as he made the cut right on the number. Goosen’s streak is second to Ernie Els’ 19. Defending champion Padraig Harrington bogeyed four of his first six holes to drop to 6-over-par, but recovered with eight birdies over his last 11 holes. He birdied five of six at one point on the front nine (his final nine holes) to post a 6-under-par 30. Past champion Billy Andrade (tied for fourth) has four top-10s in 18 previous Barclays Classic starts, including his victory in 1991. Andrade is playing in his 160th events since his first PGA TOUR win since the 2000 Invensys Classic. Seven of 22 players that led or shared the lead through 36 holes on the PGA TOUR this year have gone on to victory, including Carl Pettersson last week at the Memorial Tournament. The cut of 1-over-par was the 11th stroke-play event this year. Last year, the cut at the Barclays Classic was 3-over-par. A total of 84 players will play on the weekend this year.
