The third round was suspended for the day at 7:55 p.m. due to dangerous situation (lightning in the area). There were 24 players left on the course to complete at the time of the suspension. The 24 players returned in position at 7 a.m. Sunday to complete round three. Round three ended at 7:49 a.m. ET. The final round began at 8:20 a.m. in twosomes off of the No. 1 tee.

In the 30-year history of the Memorial Tournament, only eight times has a player managed to record four rounds in the 60s. They include the 2005 champion Bart Bryant, Tiger Woods (2001), Fred Couples (1998 and 2004), Steve Elkington (1995), Tom Lehman (1994), Paul Azinger (1993) and Hal Sutton (1986). With one round remaining, only third-round leader Carl Pettersson has the chance to string together four rounds in the 60s this week at Muirfield Village Golf Club.

This is the third time in his career that Carl Pettersson has held a third-round lead. The other times were at the 2005 Deutsche Bank Championship (shared with four others, finished tied for fourth) and at the 2005 Chrysler Championship (shared with Steve Lowery), where he captured his only victory on TOUR.

While the Memorial Tournament has always had an international field, only four different international players over the 30-year history have won the event, including 2004 winner Ernie Els. The other three: David Graham (Australia, 1980), Greg Norman (Australia, 1990, ’95) and Vijay Singh (Fiji, 1997). Through 54-holes there are four foreign-born players in the top 10, including leader Carl Pettersson. Others in the top 10: Adam Scott (fifth), Trevor Immelman (tied for sixth) and Rod Pampling (tied for sixth).

Saturday’s scoring average was 73.649, making it the highest single-round scoring average for the week. Scoring averages:

Front Nine - Back Nine - Total
Round 1 - 35.821 - 37.000 72.821
Round 2 - 36.406 - 36.495 - 72.901 (Cumulative - 72.860)
Round 3 - 37.230 - 36.419 - 73.649 (Cumulative - 73.068)

The top-50 players from the Official World Golf Rankings as of Monday, June 5th will earn a spot in the field for the 2006 British Open Championship at Royal Liverpool. Three players in the top 10, Carl Pettersson (1), Brandt Jobe (tied for 10th) and Vaughn Taylor (tied for 10th) were 51st, 54th and 59th respectively on the OWGR coming into the week.

In his PGA TOUR career, Phil Mickelson has come-from-behind on 12 occasions. Going into the final round of the Memorial Tournament, he sits four strokes back of leader Carl Pettersson. The following lists Mickelson 12 come-from-behind wins on the final day on the PGA TOUR:

Jay Haas made his 27th cut in 29 appearances at the Memorial Tournament, the most by any player at Muirfield Village Golf Club. In fact, Haas matched another cut milestone tying Tom Kite for the most career cuts on the PGA TOUR with 590. Haas has five Champions Tour victories, including three in a row in 2006. He won back-to-back weeks in late April—Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf and FedEx Kinko’s Classic and then won the Senior PGA Championship last week. Kite, who has spent the last five years primarily on the Champions Tour, used his one-time career-money exemption to return to the PGA TOUR in 2005. Raymond Floyd is third on the list, with 583 career cuts.

Bogey free rounds for the week:
First Round -- Jerry Kelly, Tim Clark
Second round -- Carl Pettersson, Adam Scott, Craig Parry and Tim Petrovic
Third round -- None

Seventy-five players managed to make the 36-hole at 4-over-par 148. This marks the seventh time that the 36-hole cut has been 4-over 148. In fact, the cut has never been at par or better in its 31-year history.

It is the 10th time in 19 events with a 36-hole cut this season that the cut-line has been over-par, including the fifth week in a row (Wachovia Championship, EDS Byron Nelson Championship, Bank of America Colonial, FedEx St. Jude Classic). It matches the high cut of the 2006 season which came at the Masters Tournament and last week at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. Here are this year’s over-par cuts:
4-over-par -- Masters Tournament
4-over-par -- FedEx St. Jude Classic
4-over-par -- the Memorial Tournament
3-over-par -- Sony Open in Hawaii
3-over-par -- The Honda Classic
2-over-par -- Wachovia Championship
1-over par -- Bay Hill Invitational
1-over-par -- Nissan Open
1-over-par -- EDS Byron Nelson Championship
1-over-par -- Bank of America Colonial

Second-round play was called for the day on Friday at 8:48 p.m. due to darkness. The last player (Adam Scott) finished up his hole at 9:09 p.m. After Justin Rose and Ryan Moore were reinstated from their disqualification on Saturday night, the 72 players left on the course resumed their second round at 8:04 a.m. Saturday morning. Round two was finally completed at 12:53 p.m. The third round began at 1:30 p.m. with players starting in threesomes off of both the Nos. 1 and 10 tees.

Ernie Els made his 13th straight cut at the Memorial Tournament on Saturday and has never missed a cut in Dublin, Ohio. He still has a ways to go to match Scott Hoch, who made his first 17 (1981-97) cuts at the tournament and Hale Irwin who was 16 of 16 (1976-91). Els’ streak is tied for fourth-longest streak at the tournament and is the best current streak. The world’s sixth-ranked player, who is making his 10th start on the PGA TOUR in 2006, has not missed a cut this season and holds the PGA TOUR-leading consecutive cuts streak with 34. Carl Pettersson extended his streak to 22, second to Els in that category.

Three players with 10 or more starts at the Memorial Tournament extended their perfect cut record on Saturday at Muirfield Village Golf Club. They include:
Ernie Els -- 13 of 13
Jim Furyk -- 11 of 11
David Duval -- 10 of 10

After making the 36-hole cut Robert Allenby withdrew with a back injury. The field dropped to 74 players.

Here’s how the seven former champions fared through three rounds at Muirfield Village Golf Club. Fred Couples was the only past champion to miss the cut: 2005 -- Bart Bryant, 70-75-71—216
2004 -- Ernie Els, 74-70-73—217
2002 -- Jim Furyk, 73-71-72—216
1997 -- Vijay Singh, 74-71-72—217
1993 -- Paul Azinger, 73-71-70—214
1989 -- Bob Tway, 74-74-DNF
1998 -- Fred Couples, 69-80—140
