MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The PGA TOUR and FedEx jointly unveiled the new FedEx Cup logo Wednesday during a press conference at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. The mark represents the cornerstone to a dramatically changed PGA TOUR schedule beginning in 2007 -- a prestigious and lucrative individual points competition that will begin the first week of the season and culminate in August and September with a first-ever, playoff series comprised of four tournaments including the Barclays Classic in New York, Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston, Western Open in Chicago and the repositioned TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola in Atlanta. "The FedEx Cup, represented by this new tri-color logo, will become synonymous with a new measurement of achievement on the PGA TOUR," said Ric Clarson, senior vice president, brand marketing for the PGA TOUR. "Fans will associate this logo with a dynamic season-long competition to determine the FedEx Cup champion."
"I'd like to thank FedEx for joining with the PGA TOUR for this real exciting time in my career and our era," said PGA TOUR veteran Stewart Cink. "Everybody who has a PGA TOUR card today is really lucky to be a part of this. It's going to be a really exciting time for professional golf both inside the ropes and outside the ropes, and for those watching on television. It's a real exciting time and I'm looking forward to it." The FedEx Cup logo marks a collaboration of two high-profile brands -- FedEx and the PGA TOUR. FedEx is one of the world’s most-recognized brands with a renowned logo that stands for reliability, outstanding customer service and leadership. Similarly, the TOUR stands for the best in golf. "The new identity leverages the equity of both the FedEx and PGA TOUR logos. These brands are best of class. Combined, the new logo communicates that FedEx Cup is a pinnacle event in golf," said Tucker. As previously announced, with FedEx sponsoring the new season-long competition, Stanford Financial Group will replace FedEx as the title sponsor of the FedEx St. Jude Classic beginning in 2007. FedEx, which became title sponsor in 1986, will continue to have a significant involvement with the tournament as the presenting sponsor. The new event will be called the Stanford St. Jude Championship. |
