DETROIT -- Buick announced today that it will continue as title sponsor of the Buick Invitational through the 2010 tournament. The PGA TOUR event has been played at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, Calif., since 1968. Buick took over as title-sponsor of the tournament in 1992. “We are very excited to announce an agreement to continue as the title sponsor of one of the premier events on the PGA TOUR for another four years,” said Steve Shannon, Buick general manager. “We look forward to continuing our relationship with the Century Club through the decade to help raise money for very worthy San Diego charities and to get the word out about the complete product renaissance at Buick.” “We could not be more delighted to have Buick as our title sponsor for the next four years which will bring our valued partnership to nearly two decades,” said Bill Potter, Century Club President. “Both the Century Club and Buick have mutual goals to raise maximum dollars for local San Diego charities and continue to improve the quality of the tournament on an annual basis.” “We are extremely pleased that Buick will continue as title sponsor in San Diego as we move into an exciting new era of the PGA TOUR in 2007 with a restructured scheduled and the introduction of the FedEx Cup, of which the Buick Invitational will play an important role,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. “Buick has been a valued partner of the PGA TOUR for more than 40 years, and since 1992 has supported the Century Club and its efforts to grow the tournament and its charitable outreach. We look forward to the Buick Invitational continuing as a key component of our West Coach schedule.” Tiger Woods became the first four-time winner (1999, 2003, 2005, and 2006) of the tournament with his victory at Torrey Pines in January this year. Phil Mickelson has won the tournament three times (1993, 2000 and 2001). The Buick Invitational dates for the next four years: January 22-28 (2007); January 21-27 (2008); Feb. 2-8 (2009); January 25-31 (2010). |
