PALM DESERT, California -- Michelle Wie accepted an invitation to the Samsung World Championship on Monday, filling out the eight U.S. LPGA Tour events the 16-year-old is allowed to play this year. Wie made her professional debut at Samsung last October, and it was a memorable start. She finished in a tie for fourth place, but was disqualified an hour later for what was ruled a bad drop in the third round that led her to sign an incorrect scorecard. This year's tournament will be played on Oct. 12-15 at Bighorn Golf Club, where Wie's family recently bought a house. Wie, attending Punahou School in Hawaii, already has played the Fields Open in Hawaii. She plans to play all four major championships, along with the Evian Masters, HSBC Match Play Championship and the Samsung. Because she is not a LPGA Tour member, she is allowed only six exemptions. The U.S. Women's Open and Women's British Open do not count toward her six. ©The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved. |
