Champions Tour votes to allow players the option of using carts

After meeting Monday, the Champions Tour Division Board voted to make cart availability an option, beginning at the Puerto Vallarta Golf Classic later this month.

“The TOUR continues to believe the presentation of our tournaments and the on-site fan experience is enhanced when competitions don't feature carts and players walk,” said Rick George, president of the Champions Tour. “However, due to ongoing requests made by a number of players, we have concluded that carts will be made available on a more frequent basis to those wishing to use them.”

Of the Champions Tour's 29 tournaments this year, nine will prohibit the use of carts, including the five major championships.

The guidelines for cart usage are:

Players choosing to take a cart may do so on the front nine, back nine or for the entire 18 holes.
Caddies are permitted to drive a cart if the player elects to walk during competition.
No carts will be permitted throughout the entire week at the five major championships on the Champions Tour schedule.
No carts will be permitted during competitive rounds at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, the Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach and during the count rounds of pro-am format events, including the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am and Greater Kansas City Golf Classic.
