At the age of 23 years, nine months and nine days, J.B. Holmes becomes the youngest winner of the FBR Open since Jerry Pate won the 1977 Phoenix Open at the age of 23 years, three months and three days. Holmes is also the youngest player since Sean O’Hair (22 years 11 months and 29 days) to win on the PGA TOUR. O'Hair won the John Deere Classic last year. • J.B. Holmes posted only four bogeys on the week and managed the only bogey-free round on Sunday. • Phil Mickelson led the field with 26 birdies while Kenny Perry led the field with only three bogeys. • J.B. Holmes, making his fourth start as a PGA TOUR member, became the fastest to first win as a member since Garrett Willis won the 2001 Touchstone Energy Tucson Open in first start after graduating from Q-school in 2000. • J.B. Holmes posted the largest margin of victory on the PGA TOUR (seven strokes) since Kenny Perry won the 2005 Bank of America Colonial by an identical seven strokes. It was also the largest margin of victory at the FBR Open since Mark Calcavecchia won by eight in 2001. • Brandt Jobe was disqualified under Rule 4-1/1: Non-Conforming Club Carried But Not Used. During his final round, Jobe noticed his 6-iron shaft was bent and informed a Rules Official of the possible infraction. He was then disqualified after completing his sixth hole of the day (No. 15). A similar incident occurred last year to Kevin Stadler at the Michelin Championship in Las Vegas. • Two rookies finished among the top-two this week -- J.B. He didn't return until October at the FUNAI Classic and finished out of the top 125 for the first time since joining the TOUR in 1990. Entering the 2006 season on a Minor Medical Extension, Triplett had the opportunity to play in 11 events to earn $28,591 and match the $626,736 winnings of 2005's No. 125, Nick Price. • Monday Qualifier Scott Piercy (tied for 15th) narrowly missed a top-10 finish that would have exempted him into next week’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. • Ryan Palmer finished the week No. 1 in Driving Distance for the eight measured drives at 317.0 yards. • J.B. Holmes picks up 100 points in the West Coast Swing presented by Allianz, giving him a total of 165 points. The winner of the competition, which will conclude the last week of February at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship and the Chrysler Classic of Tucson, will receive $500,000. The runner-up earns $300,000 and the third-place finisher gets $200,000. • With his 4-over-par 74 on Sunday, David Toms’ streak of seven consecutive rounds in the 60s was snapped. • On the strength of five birdies in his last six holes on Sunday, Phil Mickelson (tied for seventh) picked up his eighth top-10 (fourth consecutive) in his 16th start at the FBR Open this week. Mickelson has three top-10s in three starts this season and is tied with Lucas Glover for most top-10s thus far in 2006. • Tom Pernice, Jr., earned closest-to-the-hole honors on No. 16 for the week, hitting his tee shot on the 166-yard, par 3 to one inch. • Chad Campbell was named PGA TOUR Player of the Month for January on the strength of his win at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and his tie for second finish at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
