Chat with the champ: Campbell on steak, Riviera and his proudest moment

 

Editor's note: Chad Campbell leads the PGA TOUR money list for the first time in his career after Sunday’s win at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and a runner-up finish the previous week at the Sony Open in Hawaii . Shortly after celebrating his three-stroke victory Sunday, the soft-spoken Texan sat down with PGA TOUR media officials Todd Budnick and John Bush for another edition of “Chat with the Champ.”

PGATOUR.com: What is your favorite PGA TOUR golf memory as a kid?

CAMPBELL: Jack Nicklaus winning his sixth Masters in 1986.

PGATOUR.com: What’s your favorite beverage?

CAMPBELL: Water

PGATOUR.com: What’s your idea of a perfect day?

CAMPBELL: Playing golf with my friends and then hanging out with my wife at night.

PGATOUR.com: What was your childhood ambition?

CAMPBELL: To be a professional golfer.

PGATOUR.com: What was your first job?

CAMPBELL: Working on the greens crew at my local golf course.

PGATOUR.com: Name the last non-golf sporting event you attended.

CAMPBELL: A Dallas Cowboys football game.

PGATOUR.com: What’s your highest score on a hole as a pro?

CAMPBELL: Honestly I don’t know, but it wasn’t a 10. It was a 9.

PGATOUR.com: What has been your proudest moment?

CAMPBELL: When I was on the Nationwide Tour and won the tournament in Odessa.

PGATOUR.com: How many TVs do you have in your house?

CAMPBELL: Five.

PGATOUR.com: What did you do on your first date with your wife?

CAMPBELL: We just went out to dinner.

PGATOUR.com: Name the weirdest place you've been noticed and been asked for an autograph.

CAMPBELL: Probably in a convenience store.

PGATOUR.com: What’s your favorite food?

CAMPBELL: Steak

PGATOUR.com: What’s the approximate number of golf clubs you have at your house?

CAMPBELL: Oh my gosh, probably 400.

PGATOUR.com: What's better, the NCAA basketball tournament or the college football bowl season?

CAMPBELL: Bowl season.

PGATOUR.com: What’s your favorite candy bar?

CAMPBELL: Snickers

PGATOUR.com: As a chef in the kitchen, what's your specialty?

CAMPBELL: I have none, but if I had to say something it would be steak.

PGATOUR.com: What was the name of your pet when you were a kid?

CAMPBELL: A poodle named Brandy.

PGATOUR.com: How many chin-ups do you think you could do right now?

CAMPBELL: I’d say six.

PGATOUR.com: If you had to watch an entire awards show, would you watch the Academy Awards, the Emmys, the MTV Music Awards or the Grammys?

CAMPBELL: The MTV Music Awards.

PGATOUR.com: What’s the best place you have ever visited?

CAMPBELL: The Atlantis in the Bahamas.

PGATOUR.com: What’s your favorite course?

CAMPBELL: Riviera.

PGATOUR.com: What’s the best shot of your career?

CAMPBELL: I have no idea.

PGATOUR.com: What’s the oldest club in your bag?

CAMPBELL: My 3-wood is probably 5 or 6 years old.
