Editor’s note: Fred Funk, one of the game’s most popular players, is competing in his second Presidents Cup this week. The 49-year-old who won THE PLAYERS Championship in March will be writing a diary for PGATOUR.com this week. Here is his fifth, and final, installment. PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. -- I didn’t play that well in my match with Michael Campbell today. I was just kind of scraping it around and trying to find something, but I couldn’t keep it going. It was kind of an inevitable thing. He was playing a lot better than I did all day and beat me 3 and 2. So I had a tough day, but it’s all about our team and this feels absolutely fantastic. It was an exciting, exciting match. It was really good for golf, too. It’s great to be part of a winning team. The chemistry of the team and the camaraderie was so good. It was like a family. It was so much fun. The match was almost too close for anyone to declare a champion. But Chris was so clutch. That finish was unbelievable. I was torn. I went down to follow Phil in the playoff. Everybody was everywhere, and nobody really knew what to do. So we watched on that giant TV monitor over on No. 12 and saw what happened. There was a bunch of fans over there where I was hugging each other. I was thrilled. It was an electric moment -- a great finish to an indescribable week. |
