Stat of the Day: Weekley's 2013

Boo Weekley's putting has improved quite a bit in 2013.

Perhaps it's no surprise that arguably the best ball striker on the PGA TOUR is an impressive 12th in FedExCup points. At least not until considering that player, Boo Weekley, ranked No. 1 in ball-striking in 2012 but 123rd in FedExCup points.

How is such a disparity possible? It's perfectly plausible when taking a peek at Weekley's putting statistics.

Weekley was losing an incredible 1.023 strokes per round to the field average last season. That ranked 190th on the PGA TOUR -- second-to-last. That's more than four strokes per four-round tournament just to the field average.

This season, Weekley ranks 181st in strokes gained-putting. But get this: His SGP number has dropped to -.652, meaning he's improved nearly a half stroke since last season per round.

One other stat that sticks out for Weekley, who broke a five-year victory drought with his win this season at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, is sand play. Weekley is up to 96th on TOUR (50.44 percent) from 161st last season (43.01 percent).

Here are some of the stats where Weekley has improved the most since last season.
