Ernie Els ... Compared to the Hall of Famer's lofty standards, 2013 hasn't matched up, and he's coming off a missed cut at The Barclays after which he fell to 91st in FedExCup points. However, half of his 12 cuts made this season have gone for a top 25 and he's only two weeks removed from polishing off a T20 at the Wyndham with a 65. The Big Easy is 4-for-5 at TPC Boston with a T3 in 2008 and a T16 in 2011.
Kevin Stadler ... Led The Barclays after 18 holes but disappeared for a share of 43rd place by Sunday night to extend a drought without a top 25 to 12 starts. He still rose to 75th in FedExCup points, so he's in a crouching position to advance. After an 0-for-3 slate at TPC Boston, he tied for 10th last year. Ranked T2 that week in fairways hit, T8 in greens in regulation and first in scrambling. Overall this season, he's 17th in total driving, ninth in GIR, T16 in proximity to the hole and 17th in par breakers, so the elements are there. It's just a matter of putting four rounds together.
Bo Van Pelt ... At 97th in the FedExCup standings, he needs a vintage performance to advance. Because we haven't witnessed that for a while -- just one top 10 this season (T6, Wells Fargo Championship) -- it fuels the reason why he lands here; that is, he's the long shot that you can't rule out. Three top 25s in his last eight trips to TPC Boston, including a solo seventh in 2011.
Brendan Steele ... Went 1-for-12 in birdie opportunities in his second-round 74 at Liberty National and missed the cut on the number. Had entered on a hot streak with a solo fourth in Reno and a T11 in Greensboro. Making his second appearance at the Deutsche Bank Championship and now 89th in FedExCup points, he can tap into a successful debut at TPC Boston in 2011 when he tied for 10th.
Martin Flores ... Climbed eight spots to 78th in FedExCup points with a T54 at The Barclays. Finished T16 at the Wyndham two weeks ago where he closed with a career-low 63 for the second time in four starts (T4, John Deere Classic). Ranks 52nd in adjusted scoring, 12th in scrambling and T11 in par-4 scoring.
