PGA TOUR Science of Golf Presented by IBM, two one hour programs focusing on how modern technology has directly impacted the game of golf. From the high-tech world of building equipment to the unique teaching methods to the importance of physical fitness, science plays an enormous role in today's game. Today's modern clubs are more a product of engineering stainless steel and graphite than the craftsmanship of yesteryear. Persimmon wood has given way to materials like carbon fiber and titanium.

PGA TOUR Science of Golf Presented by IBM, will put the full swing under the microscope. With precise timing, in the right sequential order, the swing must be in perfect rhythm for contact lasting a mere five one-thousands of a second. Utilizing computer animations and interviews with PGA TOUR players, golf teachers and fitness instructors, you'll see how the human body works in unison to complete the golf swing. The science of the golf swing becomes exponentially challenging because the physical makeup of each individual player is different. People are separated by height, weight, body frame and athletic skill. Regardless, there are repeatable elements in every swing necessary for consistent shots.

Eighty percent of the strokes golfers lose to par are determined by their play within 100 yards of the green. Unlike the power game, the short game has many more intricate components and variables which will cause us to fail. How hard or soft do I swing? What impact does ball position have on the short game and how do PGA TOUR players professionals get their ball to stop so suddenly?

PGA TOUR Science of Golf Presented by IBM will not only delve into the mechanics revolving around the short game swing but the mental part of it as well. We'll explain how the body and mind work in unison to perform under pressure and to understand the nuances which go into the making you a better short game player.

These are just a few of the many questions that will be answered by PGA TOUR players, golf club engineers, scientists, and golf instructors as we uncover the "Science of Golf."
