SYNOPSIS
 Tiger Woods joined Nick Faldo and Jack Nicklaus as the only players with a successful Masters title defense when he beat Retief Goosen by three strokes. This was the first time the Masters would be played at the lengthened Augusta National and Woods had no trouble with the course -- hitting 69 percent of his fairways and 75 percent of his greens in regulation while making 19 birdies and averaging 294.75 yards off the tee. Woods trailed by six when he left the soggy course on Friday but played 26 holes on Saturday in 8 under to grab a share of the lead with Goosen. Woods distanced himself from the competition early on Sunday, though, when he birdied his first three holes on the way to victory. "It would be nice to win as many majors as Jack did," Woods said. "That would be great. But if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. I think the thing I keep saying to myself every year is I want to become a better player at the end of the year than I was at the beginning. If I can keep doing that year after year, I'll have a pretty good career."
