SYNOPSIS
 A pall was cast over THE TOUR Championship on the Monday before the tournament began when the news broke that Payne Stewart had been killed in a plane crash. While the decision was made to go ahead and hold the tournament, the schedule was changed to accommodate players wanting to fly to Orlando on Friday for the memorial service. So 27 holes were played on Thursday and again on Saturday with the final 18 Sunday. Woods opened with a 67 and had seized a share of the lead when he completed his 27th hole on Thursday. He went on to shoot 66, 67 and 69 to beat Davis Love III by four strokes. "I'm not sure how much better I can get," Woods said.
