Why argue with success? Lucas Glover hung up his spikes after the 2008 PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup, then came back refreshed and put together a career season last year. So that's exactly what the Clemson grad did to prepare for the 2010 campaign. Only this year, Glover returns to the PGA TOUR with added confidence after winning the U.S. Open in 2009, seizing his first major championship in a five-day marathon of stops and starts at Bethpage Black. Glover ended up turning back challenges from David Duval, Ricky Barnes and Phil Mickelson to win by two strokes. He spent the next day in New York City -- appearing on Regis & Kelly and The Late Show with David Letterman, among other festivities - but then honored his commitments to play the next four weeks. Glover, who also tied for second at the Quail Hollow Championship and third at the Buick Invitational, ended up winning just under $4 million. And on the off chance anyone wondered if the U.S. Open win was a fluke, Glover finished solo fifth at the PGA Championship and ended up 12th in the FedExCup. He played in his second Presidents Cup, as well.
New fame, same great guy. The best may still be yet to come. Lucas will still be the same Southern gentleman going forward no matter what he does in the future.
Glover, who became the first player to win a major with a square-headed driver, finished second in total driving. He ranked 25th in distance (297.4) and 70th in accuracy (65.49 percent).
