Kevin Sutherland will be looking to end an eight-year winless drought when he tees it up in 2010. He'll need to give himself more opportunities, though, after a 2009 season that only saw him post two top-10s and nothing higher than a tie for fifth at the Wyndham Championship Sutherland shot 14 under that week. The only other time he hit double digits under par in a 72-hole event was at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial where four rounds in the 60s propelled him to 11 under and a tie for ninth. The affable Californian with the quick wit was coming off a career year in 2008 when he won more than $2.5 million and was runner-up two times. But his $1.2 million in earnings assured him of a third straight year in seven figures so he must be doing something right.
He will always be one of the nicest guys in the game. Kevin is still in search of that first stroke-play victory on TOUR but the long putter has given him some renewed confidence.
On putts from inside 10 feet, Sutherland ranked 26th on TOUR. He could have been even better had he not ranked 146th on putts from 9 feet, or 174th from 5 feet.
