In 2008, he surged late to win his 20th PGA TOUR event. Last season, Davis Love III posted his best finish in the first tournament of the year. But he'll need more consistency in 2010 if the veteran is to make his seventh Ryder Cup team. The runner-up finish at the season-opening Mercedes-Benz Championship was the 30th second place of Love's career. He went on to earn more than $1.6 million for the second straight year and finished 51st in the FedExCup. As was the case in 2008, Love only had one other top-10 finish and it came at the Memorial Tournament. He was tied for the lead late in the final round before Tiger Woods closed birdie-birdie and Love ended up tied for fifth.
Only three active players have more wins -- and Davis isn't done yet. He is fitter in his mid-40s than at any time during his career. That should mean good things for Love.
After ranking outside the top 100 in greens in regulation in 2008, Love improved to 50th in that category in 2009. Not surprisingly, he also ranked in the top 20 in par-5 scoring average.
