John Rollins will get to start the 2010 campaign with a Hawaiian vacation after picking up his third PGA TOUR victory at last year's Legends Reno-Tahoe Open. The victory ended a three-year victory drought for the Virginian who now makes his home in the Dallas, Texas area, and sent him to the SBS Championship on Maui. Rollins persevered in Reno despite a back-nine stretch where he bogeyed three of four holes. But he righted the ship with a birdie on the 17th hole and ended up winning by three strokes. Rollins had tied for second in Reno in 2008. The 34-year-old veteran also had two runner-up finishes in his first six starts of the season. He ended up 28th on the money list with more than $2.2 million and 45th in the FedExCup.
He's a five-skill player in baseball terms and should win again soon. A terrific driver of the golf ball, maybe one of the best. I would love to see him a little more aggressive on the greens.
Rollins was third in total driving, but just 134th in greens in regulation in 2009. On the bright side, he had the seventh-longest putt on TOUR at 79 feet, 7 inches.
