To say that Chad Campbell will be eager to get back to Augusta National in 2010 is probably an understatement. He had a chance to win the Masters last year, only to lose to Angel Cabrera in a playoff. It was Campbell's second top-three finish in his last four starts there and his third in a major, period. Normally one of the game's best ball-strikers, Campbell admits he might have dwelled on his approach that landed in a greenside bunker on the first playoff hole a little too much. Ditto for the missed 4-footer that sent him packing. All in all, though, the four-time PGA TOUR champ considers the week a confidence builder. Campbell needed 15 more starts to get his next top-10, and it also turned out to be a playoff loss at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Those two runner-up finishes carried the Texan to a solid $1.9 million season.
The time is now for Chad. His close call at the Masters took a bigger toll than anyone knew. That is all in the past now. Once considered the best player without a major as voted by his peers but time is ticking away.
The Texan ranked ninth in greens in regulation mostly because he was seventh in approaches from both 75-100 yards and 100-125 yards and was fourth in approaches from 175-200 yards.
