Players always say that it only takes one good week -- and Heath Slocum is living proof. His outlook for 2010 changed completely when he won The Barclays last year and went from fighting to keep his card to having the luxury of a two-year exemption. Slocum wasn't even sure he'd get to play at Liberty National in the first event of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup after he missed the cut at the Wyndham Championship. While he played with his daughter Stella that Sunday, Slocum's wife was checking out the projected points standings. Turns out, he was the next-to-last man in. Slocum made sure he'd stay around for a while when he outlasted a star-studded field in the first playoff event. The win was the third of his career and just the third top-10 in a season that had seen him teetering on the 125 bubble on the money list. He can concentrate on his game now that he's got a career-best $2.195 million in the bank and a job for the next two years.
The win at the Barclays came out of nowhere. It should be fun to see if he can back it up in 2010.
Slocum was T6 on TOUR in proximity to the hole in 2009, meaning he hit the ball to about 32 feet from the hole on average after an approach shot. He co-led the same category in 2007.
