As Hunter Mahan contemplates the 2010 season, he'll have two primary goals. Winning his second PGA TOUR event would be huge. Ditto for making the U.S. Ryder Cup team - which would mean a fourth straight international competition for the 27-year-old, as well as a cool trip to Wales. Mahan is coming off an extremely consistent season that saw him cash a check in 24 of the 25 events he entered. His only missed cut came a the British Open, but he finished 16th or better in the other majors, including ties for sixth at the U.S. Open and 10th at the Masters. The Oklahoma State product challenged at the AT&T National last year, firing a 62 on Sunday to finish one stroke behind the host, Tiger Woods. A more likely spot for his second victory would be the site of his first at the Travelers Championship where he was second in his title defense and fourth last year.
Great golf hasn't always led to the winners circle for Hunter. It will again -- in a big way. Another of those players that Ryder Cup Captain Corey Pavin will be keeping an eye on.
His final-round scoring average of 69.45 was fifth-best on TOUR. His 62 on the final day of the AT&T National, where he finished second, tied the course record.
