Contested concurrently with The Open Championship, the Sanderson Farms Championship in Madison, Miss., boasts a new title sponsor -- Sanderson Farms is the third-largest producer of poultry in the United States and has the option to extend its partnership after one year. The winner will receive 300 FedExCup points. That's an increase of 50 over previous seasons.
The tournament has roots dating back to 1968 and it's been an official-money event since it was first held at Annandale Golf Club in 1994. It was played the same week at the season's third major during its first five years at Annandale before reclaiming this spot on the schedule in 2011.
Since its return to mid-July, Annandale has played as the easiest par 72 among all that serve as the only host track for an event. Last year's scoring average on the 7,202-yard racetrack was 70.277. Scott Stallings posted 24-under 264 to establish low aggregate in the official-money era.
Seasonably warm and muggy conditions are expected, with a chance for rain and storms. Light winds won't do much to take the bite out of 90 degrees every day.
