PENGLAI, China -- Chinese amateur Zhi Hao Chen and South Korea’s Jin Yong Jeong both shot 3-under 69s at the Chateau Junding Penglai Open Monday qualifier to capture co-medalist honors. They highlight a group of 10 players who earned spots in the tournament, which begins Thursday.

Chen, who turns 18 later this month, has played in four PGA TOUR China Series’ events this season, with his lone made cut coming at the Earls Beijing Open. In the qualifier, Chen made three birdies -- two coming on par-3s -- during his bogey-free round at the Chateau Junding Golf Club.

This is the second time Jeong has qualified this season. He also successfully made it into the Earls Beijing Open, where he went on to miss the cut. Jeong began his round Monday with a birdie, and he added four more against two bogeys.

Tying for third were China’s Bo Wen Xiao and South Korea’s Jin Ho Kim, at even-par 72. Tied for fifth with 1-over 73s were Taiwan’s Hong Sheng Zeng and China’s Hao Chen. The remaining qualifiers were China’s Qiang Sun and Cheng Xiong and Taiwan’s Hong Jin Peng (74) and China’s Liu Qiang Ye (75), who survived a six-man playoff to secure the final open position.

The Chateau Junding Penglai Open is the seventh of 12 PGA TOUR China Series’ tournaments in this inaugural season as players continue to battle for Order of Merit position and invitations to the 2015 Web.com Tour.
