KUNMING, China -- Thailand’s Gunn Charoenkul won the Yulongwan Yunnan Open on Sunday for his first PGA TOUR China Series’ victory. By Monday, he had reached his highest position in the Official World Golf Ranking. Charoenkul’s victory moved him inside the top 500 in the OWGR, putting him at No. 428, an improvement of 145 places over last week. This is also his career-high position.

China’s Xin Jun Zhang, runner-up at the Yulongwan Yunnan Open, his third second-place finish of the season, moved to No. 367, up 76 points over the previous week. It has been a precipitous climb for Zhang, who ended 2013 1,033rd in the Ranking.

Zhang is the third-highest-ranked player from China, behind Wen Chong Liang (No. 196) and Ashun Wu (No. 198).

Taiwan’s Shi Chang Chan, who tied for 60th in Yunnan, remains the highest-ranked PGA TOUR China Series’ player. He checks in at No. 195—the only Series’ player inside the top 200—and is the 12th-ranked Asian player, the highest-rated player from Taiwan.
