    • Shih Chang Chan makes move in OWGR

KUNMING, China—Counting his victory two weeks at the Asian Development Tour’s Taifong Open, and with his third-place finish at the ADT’s Ballantine’s Taiwan Championship last week, PGA TOUR China Series’ member Shih Chang Chan moved to No. 194 in the Official World Golf Ranking. This marks the highest position any PGA TOUR China Series has held in the OWGR and the first time in history that a PGA TOUR China Series’ player has moved inside the top 200.

Chan, a native of Taiwan, has won three Asian Development Tour events this season, including the Taifong Open, where he defeated Thailand’s Suppakorn Uthaipat, the Philippines’ Miguel Tabuena and countrymen Tung Shu Hsieh and Mao Chang Sung in a four-hole playoff. Last week, he enjoyed four sub-70 rounds at Ta Kang Shang Golf Course in Kaohsiung to tie Nils Floren for second. Chan never really contended, though, as countryman Wen Tang Lin overwhelmed the field, finishing at 21-under to win by six strokes.

On the PGA TOUR China Series, Chan played in three of the first five events, with top-10s—at the Buick Open (third place) and the Lanhai Open (tied for 10th). He’s ninth on the Series’ Order of Merit, and he’ll be seeking his first PGA TOUR China Series title this week when he tees it up at the Yulongwan Yunnan Open.

The next-highest ranked PGA TOUR China Series’ player is New Zealand’s Mark Brown. He is in the No. 306 position this week. Thailand’s Arnond Vongvanij is next, at No. 324. The highest-ranked PGA TOUR China Series’ player from China is Xin Jun Zhang, at No. 443. Zhang leads the Order of Merit and is the circuit’s most-recent winner, at the Earls Beijing Open.
