    KUNMING, China -- Zi Hao Chen played in his first three PGA TOUR China Series tournaments by virtue of sponsors’ exemptions. This week, he’ll play in the Yulongwan Yunnan Open after earning his way into the field.

    Monday at the tournament’s open qualifier at Yulongwan Golf Club, the 17-year-old from Zhuhai shot an even-par 72 to capture medalist honors. He defeated countrymen Chun Liu, Qiang Ren, Zheng Xin Yang, Chang Chun Mu and Yi Yuan Mi and Taiwan’s Tao Huang.

    Six other players also qualified Monday. Jian Hou (China) shot a 2-over 74, while a quartet of players, Ping Xiao (China) and Taiwan’s Jiang Hao Quan Fan, Hao Yang and Cong Jie Wang, all ended at 75. China’s Hao Chen (76) was the final qualifier.

    Chen, who opened and closed with bogeys during the 18-hole qualifier but made two back-nine birdies to get back to par, last played in the Series at the Earls Beijing Open, where he made his first cut in three starts, tying for 68th.

    The Yulongwan Yunnan Open, the sixth event of the 12-tournament schedule, begins Aug. 7.
