2015 Predictions: Which veteran is most likely to bounce back?

    Written by Staff @PGATOUR

The 2015 portion of the PGA TOUR schedule begins with the first round of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions on Jan. 9. To prepare for the resumption of the 2014-15 season, our writers are offering their predictions about what the New Year will bring. They’ll prognosticate on a different subject each day from Jan. 2 to Jan. 8. Check in daily and offer your opinions in the comments section below.

Friday, Jan. 2: Who will be a first-time winner on the PGA TOUR In 2015?
Saturday, Jan. 3:Who will be Rookie of the Year in 2014-15?
Sunday, Jan. 4: Who will be a pleasant surprise on the PGA TOUR in 2015?
Monday, Jan. 5:What should be expected of Tiger Woods in 2015?

Today we look at veteran players – not including Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson – who look likely to have a bounce-back year in 2015.

    SEAN MARTIN, Events Editor

Lee Westwood. Westwood, a former World No. 1, had fallen to No. 43 in the Official World Ranking before his recent win at the Thailand Golf Championship, his second victory in Asia in 2014. He's off to a good start in this PGA TOUR season, finishing in the top 20 in his first three starts of the season. It looks like things may be on the upswing after a few lean years. He needed a captain's pick to be a member of this year's European Ryder Cup team, but has played well since being a part of the victory at Gleneagles.

    HELEN ROSS, Chief of Correspondents

I am expecting Brandt Snedeker to have a big year. While many players would have been content with his 2013-14 results, they certainly weren't up to the affable Tennessean's usual standards. His work with noted swing coach Butch Harmon is already paying dividends and his normally sure putting stroke will return, allowing him to return to contending in big events.

    BRIAN WACKER, Staff Writer

Jason Dufner. Neck problems plagued him most of 2014 but Dufner played through it and struggled because of it. One of the game's best ball-strikers and now fully healthy, he's poised and motivated to have a big year in 2015.

    D.J. PIEHOWSKI, Digital Producer

Brandt Snedeker. Obviously health is the main concern, but assuming he is back to full strength in January, I wouldn't be surprised if he's contending for titles on the West Coast (again). The absence of a Masters invitation is all the motivation he needs.

    MIKE McALLISTER, Managing Editor

Easy to think that Jason Dufner or Ian Poulter will play better this year, but what about Paul Casey? Once ranked third in the world in 2009, he fell to 169th thanks in part to an injured shoulder from a snowboarding accident. But now he's 75th and won on the European Tour in September. The climb back should continue.
