IRVING, Texas -- Four of the of the top 20 players in the Official World Golf Ranking are among the early commitments to the 2014 HP Byron Nelson Championship, which boasts a growing roster of rising stars, international favorites and major champions.

Nelson Tournament Chairman Patton Chapman announced at a Kickoff Luncheon that Sang-Moon Bae, Keegan Bradley, Jason Day, Jason Dufner, Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth have committed to play in this year’s tournament.

“We couldn’t be happier with how our field is shaping up at this point,” Chapman says. “We have developed quite a reputation for playing host to the youth movement on TOUR, and we feel that we will once again showcase some of the greatest young talent along with veteran winners this May.”

Dallas-native and 2013 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year Spieth, ranked 13th in the world, will return to the Nelson, a tournament he attended each year as a young boy with his dad.

“It’s home for me,” says the 20-year-old who made his PGA TOUR debut at the 2010 Nelson on a sponsor’s exemption. “Every year, I look forward to it and highlight it on the calendar.”

Currently ranked fourth in the world, Day looks to build off the momentum of his recent win at the Accenture Match Play Championship. He won the Nelson title in 2010 — his first TOUR victory.

“It’s always a fun week,” Day says. “I’m looking forward to seeing the familiar faces I see each and every year. It’s definitely going to be exciting to play.”

The Nelson roster of top-flight players also includes recent major champion and 2012 Nelson champion Dufner, currently ranked 16th in the world. He inspired the “Dufnering” Twitter craze during the 2013 tournament kickoff.

San Antonio, Texas-native Patrick Reed, ranked 20th in the world, hopes to make the Nelson his fourth TOUR win this season. He most recently triumphed at the WGC-Cadillac Championship. He’ll join 2011 PGA Champion Keegan Bradley, who has never finished outside the top 25 at the Nelson, including a victory in 2011 and a second-place finish in 2013. Reigning Nelson champion Sang-Moon Bae, one of Korea’s most promising young players, will also be back to defend his title.

The field will be final at 5 p.m. Friday, May 9. Click here for the current commitment list. The 2014 HP Byron Nelson Championship will be played May 12-18 at the TPC Four Seasons Resort Las Colinas in Irving.
