EXPERT PREVIEW: PGA TOUR NETWORK on-site correspondent Brian Katrek previews Friday's second round:
Sometimes technology is not a good thing. Anyone that has ever played in Reno knows about having to adjust yardages for the altitude, but every year there seems to be more and more to consider while trying to figure out the distances. Altitude, temperature, elevation change, and wind are all important. And you can now add barometric pressure to the list. Tournament host Scott McCarron is a member at Montreux, and mentioned barometer readings Thursday. It's enough to make your head spin.
Sunny and clear
Temp: 97 high/68 low
Chance of precipitation 60 percent. Winds from WSW at around 15 mph.
More on the thin air: Kevin Streelman says the altitude amounts to about a half a club difference to him. Chris DiMarco says it can be between five and ten yards. And something else the players are dealing with this year for the first time -- the new conforming grooves. Spin rate affects how far a ball flies and the spin has been altered this year. Look for the players to get all of this figured out by the weekend.
Robert Gamez has always been known to be a bright guy, but he took brightness to a new level Thursday. Gamez joined the ranks of players that have worn those Loudmouth pants, but he upped the ante by playing a yellow golf ball in the first round. Gamez tees off at 11:31 a.m. ET on Friday and will certainly have enough daylight to warm up if he goes with bright colors again.
