Commissioner Finchem announces 2007 PGA TOUR Fall Series schedule
AKRON, Ohio -- PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem Wednesday announced the schedule for the 2007 PGA TOUR Fall Series, which will feature four established tournaments and mark the debut of three exciting new events. “We are pleased to announce the seven tournaments that will make up the PGA TOUR’s Fall Series,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. “We’re confident that this schedule will appeal to a broad cross-section of PGA TOUR players and will offer fans a series of exciting competitions and a variety of late-year storylines to follow. “We are particularly pleased to announce a Fall Series schedule that features a combination of terrific golf courses, strong sponsorship and community and charitable impact.” “I am glad to hear that we have a solid schedule in place next year for the Fall Series. It will be a combination of well-established tournaments and also a few new events,” said PGA TOUR player Vijay Singh. “I look forward to playing in some of these tournaments following the completion of the FedExCup season.” “The PGA TOUR Fall Series will be exciting because there will still be so much to play for,” added TOUR player Chris DiMarco. “I think you are going to see a lot of players competing to improve or secure their positions for the following seasons.” The PGA TOUR Fall Series will begin immediately following the conclusion of the FedExCup season, which culminates Sept. 16 at THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola. The seven-event series will be televised on The Golf Channel and will offer more than $32 million in official prize money. “The Fall Series will bring its own style of drama, and we're looking forward to being the only place that will showcase it all to our viewers,” said Golf Channel Chief Executive Officer David Manougian. “The livelihoods of many players will be on the line, and whether they're trying to secure their eligibility for the next FedExCup season or grinding just to hold on to their PGA TOUR cards, these seven events will provide an entirely new reason to watch.” Beyond featuring nearly two months of exciting golf through the fall, the Fall Series also plays a key role in determining eligibility for the following season’s FedExCup competition. At the time of THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola, only the 30 competitors in that event have their eligibility secured for the following year. The remainder of the top 125 fully exempt positions will be determined by season-long official earnings, and the Fall Series will offer players significant opportunities to improve their position and secure their eligibility. Additionally, players will be competing to improve their position in the Official World Golf Ranking and earn eligibility for World Golf Championships events and selected invitationals and majors. “It will be exciting to watch as the PGA TOUR Fall Series unfolds,” added Finchem. “There will be a lot riding on the events as players try to put themselves in the best position for the next year’s FedExCup competition.”
