CBS special chronicles PGA TOUR stars' rise to fame
ST. AUGUSTINE -- From the lush valleys of South America to the foggy Irish countryside, today’s PGA TOUR stars come from all parts of the globe to convene on golf’s greatest stage. And while their individual journeys to professional golf are as unique as the players behind them, they are linked by one final destination: success on the PGA TOUR. Journey of a Lifetime is a one-hour special airing Saturday, July 29, on CBS at 2 p.m. ET, that will chronicle the rise to stardom of some of the hottest players on the PGA TOUR. Produced by PGA TOUR Productions, Journey of a Lifetime will highlight the hometowns of Jack Nicklaus (Columbus, Ohio), Arnold Palmer (Latrobe, Pa)’s, and Tiger Woods (Cypress, Calif). Viewers will travel to Fiji in the South Pacific to visit the home of 29-time TOUR winner Vijay Singh. Born on the tiny island of Lautoka, Singh learned the game of golf from his airline technician father and went on to become an international icon through his constant strive for perfection. Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Padraig Harrington had been a fixture on the European golf scene for several years before making headlines in the United States. Until he became a fully exempt TOUR member last year, little was known in the U.S. about “Paddy” and his Irish roots. Journey of a Lifetime visits the emerald hills of Harrington’s native homeland and celebrates his 2005 PGA TOUR victories at The Honda Classic and Barclays Classic. Michael Campbell’s victory at the 2005 United States Open was not only a career achievement like no other, but it was also a win for an entire nation. The country of New Zealand, where there are literally more sheep than people, celebrated along with Campbell who became a true national hero as a result of his win. Recently named one of 2006’s “Hottest Bachelors” by People magazine, 24-year-old PGA TOUR rookie Camilo Villegas has quickly become a star both on and off the course. With his distinctive ‘Spiderman-like’ poses when reading putts and flashy fairway attire, Villegas has come a long way from roots in Medellin, Colombia. Journey of a Lifetime tracks his fast rise and pays tribute to his beloved home country. Don't miss your chance to see where PGA TOUR players got their start with Journey of a Lifetime on CBS Sports Saturday, July 29 at 2 p.m. ET. |
