CA to sponsor World Golf Championships event

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. and ISLANDIA, N.Y. -- The PGA TOUR, on behalf of the International Federation of PGA Tours, and CA (NYSE:CA) have announced that CA has entered a five-year sponsorship with the World Golf Championships, including title sponsorship of the WGC-CA Championship at Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami, Fla., beginning in March 2007.

The sponsorship agreement, which runs through 2010, designates CA as an official sponsor of the World Golf Championships in 2006 and, beginning next year, as an umbrella sponsor of the series and title sponsor of the tournament.

The World Golf Championships event will provide continuity to the long tradition of the world’s best players visiting Doral each March. The Ford Championship at Doral, currently held at Doral Golf Resort & Spa, no longer will be on the PGA TOUR schedule after 2006.

“We are extremely pleased to announce CA’s agreement with the World Golf Championships,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem, speaking on behalf of the International Federation of PGA Tours. “We are particularly excited about the future of the Championship with the venue and date. Doral has a storied history with the PGA TOUR and will be an outstanding host site for the CA Championship.”

The partnership is a fully integrated marketing and sponsorship program designed to leverage CA’s visibility among its customers and includes the title sponsorship, broadcast media, brand visibility, customer hospitality and other partnership opportunities.

“CA’s relationship with the WGC results from our continuing focus on developing more efficient and effective marketing platforms to reach our customers,” said CA’s Chief Marketing Officer Don Friedman. “This sponsorship agreement consolidates and reallocates existing CA marketing dollars into a fully integrated program that puts greater focus on building strong relationships with customers. The WGC is a world-class operation and we’re excited about the date and venue for the CA Championship.”

The CA Championship will be played each year at Doral’s Blue Course and feature the top 50 players from the Official World Golf Ranking along with top finishers on the money lists of six Tours comprising the International Federation of PGA Tours (PGA TOUR, European Tour, Australasian Tour, Japan Golf Tour, Asian Tour and Southern Africa Tour). The first two rounds will be televised by The Golf Channel and NBC will broadcast the final two rounds. The tournament will be televised in 140 countries.

The World Golf Championships feature elite players in a variety of competitive formats at venues around the world. Since the series debut in 1999, World Golf Championships have been held in eight countries. The CA Championship will replace the American Express Championship following the 2006 playing of that event at The Grove in Hertfordshire, England in September.

CA, formerly known as Computer Associates, will join Accenture and Bridgestone as an umbrella sponsor of the World Golf Championships.
