2011: In his rookie year, he claimed a pair of top-five finishes. In just two Nationwide Tour starts, finished sixth at the Melwood Prince George's Open, thanks to four sub-par rounds. After a bogey on the opening hole in the final round of the Travelers Championship, closed with nine birdies for an 8-under 62 to finish fourth at TPC River Highlands. Previous-low round on the TOUR was a 65—posted as an amateur during the first round of the 2008 Travelers Championship (finished T59) and the second round during his professional debut at the 2008 Valero Texas Open (finished T28). His 62 fell just one shy of the lowest fourth-round score at the Travelers Championship, set by Scott Verplank in 2001 and Brad Faxon in 2005. Fourth-place finish became his first top 10 in 17 career starts on TOUR. Next top 10 came 11 starts later, where rounds of 65-65-67 led to a one-stroke, 54-hole lead over Billy Horschel at the McGladrey Classic. He fired a final-round, 1-under 69 that left him with a career-best solo-third place finish. Entered the 72nd hole tied at 15-under with Ben Crane and Webb Simpson but pushed his drive into the hazard en route to a bogey-5. At one point, he had a streak of 43 holes without a bogey before carding two on the back nine Sunday that dashed his title hopes. Silver lining was he moved from No. 116 to No. 94 on the official money list to secure his card for the 2012 season. The third-place finish came on the same Seaside Course where, as an amateur at Alabama in 2007, he finished second at the Southeastern Conference Championship to help the Crimson Tide to a fourth-place team finish. Late in the year, traveled to Bangkok for the Thailand Golf Championship. Played steadily throughout and finished third in his Asian Tour debut, eight strokes behind winner Lee Westwood. 2010: Winner of the Michelob Ultra Classic on the NGA Hooters Tour and went on to win Rookie of the Year honors. 2009: Missed the cut in his first two career starts on the PGA TOUR, at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and the Mayakoba Golf Classic. Amateur: Won three tournaments at Tulane University. After transferring to the University of Alabama, won the 2008 Southeastern Conference individual championship. Earned first-team All-America honors in 2008. At Frederica GC on St. Simons Island, GA, he won SEC medalist honors and helped his team take top honors, as well. He went on to become the SEC Golfer of the Year that season. Finalist for the 2008 Ben Hogan Award (finished second to Rickie Fowler). Low amateur at the 2008 U.S. Open. Member of the 2008 Palmer Cup team. Second-team All-American in 2007. Runner-up at the 2007 U.S. Amateur. |
