Captured the Gateway to the Open Mizuno on the 2006 Japan Golf Tour, beginning a month-long streak on that Tour where he finished no worse than third. Finished T11 at the 2006 British Open during that span, his best career PGA TOUR and major championship finish. Won twice on the Japan Golf Tour in both 2004 and 2005. Won the 2005 Japan PGA Championship in May and two weeks later captured the JCB Classic Sendai. Placed third on the 2004 Japan Golf Tour Order of Merit. Claimed his first title on the Asian PGA Tour by winning the Shinhan Donghae Open in Korea in September 2002. Made a double eagle in the tournament and beat Simon Yates in a two-hole playoff. Also won his initial Japan Golf Tour event in July 2002, the first Korean winner in Japan since 1999. Played 2002 and 2003 WGC-World Cup for Korea with K.J. Choi and with Charlie Wi in 2006. In 2002 in Mexico, they finished T3. Started playing golf at age 10.
