Final-round 64 moved him up the leaderboard for his first career PGA TOUR top-10. Was one back of the lead through the first round at the 2002 SEI Pennsylvania and two back after 36 holes, but closing rounds of 78-73 dropped him to T67. Entering final month needing to secure TOUR card for 2003, moved toward top 125 with T5 finish at Valero Texas Open, aided by closing rounds of 65-64. Paycheck of $118,650 jumped season earnings to $415,067 (No. 131). Ended the year with $453,816 in earnings and No. 133. Earned 2002 TOUR card in fifth trip to Qualifying School. His T2 at 2001 Qualifying School included fifth-round 63, tied for low round of tournament. Six-time winner (three official) during his career on the Canadian Tour, including two in 2001. One of three players (along with Moe Norman and Trevor Dodds) to win four tournaments in one year on the Canadian Tour.
