Posted first top-10 on the PGA TOUR, a T7 at the FBR Capital Open. Was one back of the lead going into final day, but closing 73 dropped him into T7.

Despite opening with a 6-over-par 76, finished T10 at the PGA Championship at Oak Hill CC in Rochester, NY. 2001 British Open runner-up recovered with steady play over the final 54 holes (70-71-68) to clinch second career top-10 at a major.

2002: Finished T9 in WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship after losing to Paul Azinger (20 holes) in the third round. Defeated Vijay Singh and Michael Campbell in first two rounds.

Finished T11 at the WGC-American Express Championship in Ireland.

Played in first Ryder Cup and was a part of Europe's memorable triumph at The Belfry.

Placed second at the Dubai Desert Classic and Murphy's Irish Open on the European Tour.
