| Rookie on 2005 PGA TOUR after making it through stage two and the final stage of the 2004 Qualifying Tournament, where he finished T13. Member of the European Tour 1991-2004. Finished 45th on 2004 Volvo Order of Merit, the eighth consecutive season he has been in the top 50 on their list. Best finish in 12 TOUR starts in 2004 was a T17 at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. T10 at the 2003 British Open and won the Smurfit European Open. Birdied the final hole at the K Club to capture his third European Tour title. Achieved his life-long ambition in September 2002 when he qualified in 10th place for The 34th Ryder Cup Matches. Beat Phil Mickelson 3 and 2 in singles. Earlier in the season won the Algarve Open de Portugal for a second time to help underline his credentials. Three years earlier, made a conscious decision to shed the 'journeyman' tag which followed him around during a decade on Tour, finishing 15th on the Volvo Order of Merit that year, 36th in 1999 and a career-best eighth in 2000. Created a big impact in 2000, finishing runner-up on four occasions, most notably in the WGC-NEC Invitational with a T2 behind Tiger Woods to collect the biggest check of his career. Credits his stronger mental approach to his 10-year association with psychologist Alan Fine, who lives in America and flew to Akron to lend his assistance during the WGC-NEC International event. Leading amateur for Wales, won Portuguese Open in 1994 and named 'Pontypridd Man of the Year'. Partnered with Ian Woosnam to second place in the 1991 World Cup. | |
