| Best 2007 PGA TOUR finish was 19th at the British Open and recorded six top-25s on the European Tour. Had 0-1-2 record in Europe's 2006 Ryder Cup victory in home country of Ireland. Finished T3, a PGA TOUR career best, at the 2005 NEC Invitational at Firestone after being one stroke out of the lead after 54 holes. Won the season-ending Volvo Masters to place a career-best third on the 2005 European Tour Order of Merit. Captured the title on a gimpy knee. Earlier in the European Tour season, lost to Angel Cabrera in a playoff at the BMW Championship and then fell to Michael Campbell in the HSBC World Match Play Championship. Totaled 2-0-1 record at the 2004 Ryder Cup after securing the clinching point in the 2002 Ryder Cup by scoring a halve with American Jim Furyk. In 2001, won third European Tour title at The Celtic Manor Resort Wales Open. Earned first two titles at 1996 Hohe Brucke Open and 1997 Oki Pro-Am. Original love was Gaelic football, but concentrated on golf after suffering broken left kneecap at age 19. Played in 1991 Walker Cup, helping Liam White beat Phil Mickelson and Bob May. Gained European Tour card at first visit to Qualifying School that year. With Padraig Harrington, won World Cup of Golf at Kiawah Island, SC in November 1997.
