After playing for almost three decades on TOUR, has served as a roving analyst for ABC Sports' coverage of golf since 1975. Totaled six TOUR victories during career. Won the 1972 Bob Hope Desert Classic by one stroke over Lanny Wadkins, his first victory since the 1961 Bing Crosby National Pro-Am. Moved into semi-retirement after the 1972 season, his most successful financially. Best performance year was 1959, when he finished seventh on the money list and was named to the U.S. Ryder Cup team after winning the PGA Championship and finishing second in the U.S. Open. Outstanding baseball player during his collegiate days at Stanford. Almost chose baseball as a career over golf.
