2003: Spilt time on both the PGA TOUR and the Nationwide Tour in 2003. Made 15 starts on the PGA TOUR and five on the Nationwide Tour. In only his second appearance of the season finished T13 at the Buick Invitational. Finished T5 at the Greater Milwaukee Open, his first top-10 on TOUR since a T3 at the 2001 BellSouth Classic. In Milwaukee, was one of five players to post all four rounds in the 60s. Second top 10 was T3 at the Reno-Tahoe Open. Tied for 36-hole lead at 10-under-par 134, but third-round 73 de-railed title hopes. With final-round 69 thanks to two eagles, earned $174,000 to jump into top 125 on TOUR money list. 2002: Finished outside the 125 for the first time since 1998 and without a top-10 for the first time in a season with 25 or more starts. Best finish was T11 at the B.C. Open, aided by rounds of 66-67 on the weekend. Earned a season-best payday of $74,480 after a T12 finish at the BellSouth Classic. 2001: Earned a top-75 spot on the money list for the third consecutive year. Finished 67th in earnings courtesy of three top-10s and 13 cuts made in 25 starts. After starting the final day three shots off the lead, closed with a 70 in the Nissan Open to tie Robert Allenby, Brandel Chamblee, Toshi Izawa, Jeff Sluman and Bob Tway at 8-under 276. Allenby made birdie on the first extra hole to win, but Paulson earned his best finish on TOUR since winning the 2000 Buick Classic. Part of a five-man tie for the lead after an opening 66 in the Bay Hill Invitational. Followed rounds of 75-69-70 to post a T8. Trailed by two shots after both 36 and 54 holes at the BellSouth Classic. Shot 75 in the final round for a T3. 2000: Despite a dropoff from previous year's breakthrough campaign in overall performance, registered finest career moment by capturing first PGA TOUR title. Finished season with just one top-10, yet managed to rank among the top 60 on money list for second consecutive year with $896,098 (51st). Season's first memorable moment came in first career Masters appearance. Opened with 68 to hold solo first-round lead, but finished 76-73-72 for solid T14 showing. Found vindication at Buick Classic with playoff victory over David Duval nearly a year after having lost in a playoff to close friend Duffy Waldorf in previous year's event. Opened with 65-68 and held the lead through first two rounds. Third-round 75 dropped him to two strokes off 54-hole leader Waldorf. Final-day comeback was completed with 68 that forced a playoff with Duval. Par-4 on fourth extra hole brought his first TOUR victory and largest single career payday of $540,000. Became first player since Jim Furyk at 1996-97 Hawaiian Opens to participate in a playoff in the same event in consecutive years. Enjoyed his best finish at a major with a T11 at the British Open. 1999: Breakthrough season came in his third as a TOUR member. Second-round 64 at Buick Invitational featured tournament-record-tying 29 on his first nine, the back nine of the South Course at Torrey Pines, and propelled him to T7 finish. In May, matched his then career-best finish with T4 in the Compaq Classic of New Orleans. Recorded three consecutive top-10s at the end of May: Kemper Open (T8), Memorial Tournament (6) and Buick Classic (P2). Lost playoff to Duffy Waldorf after finishing as clubhouse leader until Waldorf birdied his final two holes to force playoff. In September, finished second to Hal Sutton at the Bell Canadian Open. 1998: Won Nationwide Tour Huntsville Open, defeating Brent Schwarzrock in playoff. Named Nationwide Tour Player of Month for May for victory and two other top-10s. 1996: Posted three non-tour wins: Long Beach Open, Wyoming Open, California Open. 1994: Finished T4 Freeport-McMoRan Classic after an English Turn G&CC record 10-under-par 62 in second round. Ranked second to Davis Love III in Driving Distance. 1993: Persistence at PGA TOUR National Qualifying Tournament eventually rewarded after eight consecutive unsuccessful attempts beginning in 1985. Winner of Utah State Open. 1990: Played three years on Asian Tour and won Philippines Open. Also, won the California State Open. 1985: Won National Long Driving Championship. |
