Biggest victory came at 1990 PGA Championship at Shoal Creek. Took one-stroke lead with second-round 67, then pulled away for three-stroke victory over Fred Couples. First TOUR victory came at 1989 Manufacturers Hanover Westchester Classic. Last top-10 came at 1994 Federal Express St. Jude Classic. In 1998, named Captain's Assistant by Peter Thomson for the International Team for the third Presidents Cup. International Team captured the biennial competition in December in Melbourne, Australia. Was also the Captain's Assistant to Thomson in 2000 Presidents Cup loss to the United States at Robert Trent Jones GC. Member of three World Cup Teams (1978, '83, '89) and three Dunhill Cup squads (1989-91). Initially qualified for PGA TOUR by finishing sixth at 1984 Qualifying Tournament. Two-time winner of Australian PGA Championship. Turned professional at age 16, then regained amateur status. Turned professional for good at age 21. As youngster, dreamed about someday becoming pilot in Australian Air Force.
