Career Highlights

2002: First top-10 of season was T6 at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Co-leader with Jay Haas after first-round 63. Entered final round tied for fourth, closing with a 70 for a 334 total of 26-under par.

T12 at Reno-Tahoe Open best finish since Hope. Before the week, had missed the cut in four of his last five events, and also withdrew from The INTERNATIONAL Presented by Qwest in early August. 2001: Was in a six-man Nissan Open playoff won by Robert Allenby.

Stood three back after second and third rounds of Advil Western Open. Final-round 69 produced T3 and largest payday of the season, $208,800. Ended season making 10 of last 13 cuts. 2000: Finished among the Top 100 on the TOUR money list for the sixth straight year. 1999: Tied for the lead after the first round of his first Masters Tournament with Nick Price, Scott McCarron and Davis Love III after a 69. Finished T18. Missed invitation to the 2000 Masters by two spots. 1998: Earned his first PGA TOUR victory at Greater Vancouver Open. Opened with 67 and was third. Second-round 64 moved him into tie for lead with Chris DiMarco. Added a 68 on Saturday and fell one stroke behind Payne Stewart. Made 36-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole to cap a 5-under-par 66 and a 19-under 265 for a three-stroke victory over Stewart. 1997: Finished second twice and earned over $300,000 for the first time in his career. At Quad City Classic, followed an opening 71 with a pair of 65s and 67 for second-place finish. At Canon Greater Hartford Open, shot 66 on Sunday to move into runner-up spot. 1996: Made up seven-shot deficit at BellSouth Classic with closing 67 to catch Paul Stankowski. Lost playoff on first extra hole when Stankowski birdied. 1990: Member of Nationwide Tour in its inaugural season. Won New England Classic with 1-under-par 215 total. Amateur: Enjoyed exceptional career at University of Texas, where he was a first-team All-American in 1983 and second-team in 1982 and 1984.

Personal

While growing up, rode cutting horses and roped calves on ranch at current site of TPC at Las Colinas in Irving, TX.

After an unpleasant first experience with golf at age 7, didn't touch a club for five years.

Taught himself golf swing by mimicking those he saw on television.

Worked as an ABC Sports golf commentator for nine PGA TOUR events in 2003.
