Each week, PGATOUR.COM will take a look at one of the FedExCup contenders in the field and break down his past performances at that week's event, FedExCup history, and potential for success in the 2013-14 FedExCup chase.
Rory Mcilroy has a win and a runner-up finish on his resume at the Wells Fargo Championship, and this season he travels to Quail Hollow with more momentum than ever.
For the first time, Rory McIlroy travels to the TOUR's annual stop in Charlotte on the heels of consecutive top-10 finishes. He shared seventh at the Shell Houston Open and eighth at the Masters Tournament in his two April starts. Those were his first top-10 finishes in each of those events.
With McIlroy's form and event history in mind, he's a popular pick this week, occupying a spot on 12 of the 13 fantasy teams in PGATOUR.COM's Expert Picks competition.
The 24-year-old has been solid in the FedExCup the seasons in which he's competed, finishing no lower than 50th in his three Playoff trips. The highlight, of course, was his 2012 campaign where he had four wins (including two in the Playoffs) to finish second in the FedExCup.
In his other two trips to the Playoffs, however, McIlroy has just one top-25 finish in six starts as he's fallen short of the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola.
At this point, McIlroy is 45th in FedExCup points but a win at Quail Hollow could push him as high as eighth in the FedExCup chase. If he gets into a high position prior to the Playoffs, the path to East Lake becomes that much easier for McIlroy, who's a threat any time he tees it up.
Tee times: McIlroy will join Jonas Blixt and Rickie Fowler of Quail Hollow's 10th tee on Thursday at 8 a.m. On Friday, the group has a 1:25 p.m. tee time on No. 1. Click for more tee times
