The PGA TOUR Season enters its final quarter this week. There are 27 events in the books and nine still to be contested with a wealth of FedExCup points still up for grabs during the stretch run.
That said, the race for the 125 positions in the FedExCup Playoffs intensifies with each passing week. As of Tuesday morning, 92 golfers committed to this week’s Greenbrier Classic are ranked outside the top 100 in the FedExCup standings.
Among those competitors are TOUR winners Ben Crane (103rd in FedExCup points) and Aaron Baddeley (114th) who are each making their first trip to The Old White TPC since 2010. In that event, which was the debut of The Greenbrier Classic on the PGA TOUR, Crane tied for 21st while Baddeley finished tied for 36th.
Also making his second start at The Greenbrier is Sean O’Hair (152nd) coming off a tie for seventh a year ago at The Old White TPC. The four-time TOUR winner fell outside the FedExCup top 125 in April and will need at least a top-7 finish this week to climb back inside the Playoff cut line.
Gary Woodland (106th) and Charlie Wi (108th) are two others who have had a successful run in this event. Woodland sandwiched a 2011 tie for fourth between two missed cuts while Wi tied for third a year ago in his second start at The Greenbrier Classic. Both had strong showings last week at the AT&T National with Wi finishing seventh and Woodland tying for 16th, so this week's event offers an opportunity for building on that momentum.
With the increased urgency to earn FedExCup points before the Playoffs get under way, a number of competitors are making their Greenbrier Classic debuts this week. Robert Karlsson (138th), Louis Oosthuizen (144th), Ryo Ishikawa (155th) and Mike Weir (173rd) are all currently outside the top 125 but making their first trips to The Old White TPC with hopes of changing their standings.
Below you'll find a list of a dozen players currently outside the FedExCup top 100, how high they could move with a finish of first-through-tenth place, and how far they could possibly fall if they do not earn any FedExCup points this week.
