Scotty Cameron is expanding its "Dual Balance" lineup to include two of the company's most popular models, Newport 2 and GoLo 7. With the USGA's ban on anchored putting methods going into effect in 2016, a number of equipment companies have released counter balanced models that provide anchored-stability over the last few years.
Scotty Cameron joined the craze last year when it released Futura X (the putter Adam Scott used to win the 2013 Masters) in a counter balance version. The high MOI mallet featured a rear balance bar with two 20-gram weights — the putter also has two 10-gram sole weights in the front corners of the putter — that increased stability, and a 38-inch grip with a 50-gram weight that helped give the putter a counter balanced feel.
The latest Dual Balance models from Scotty Cameron have the same counter balance design in slightly smaller head profiles. The addition of two models gives golfers options — something Cameron felt was necessary with the lineup.
“Putting is such a personal experience. That’s why we have three different putter families, with putters that are doing and saying different things,” Cameron said. “The shape of the putter may be something you like to look at, or it could be more about alignment. Either way, it’s all about finding what helps you and gives you confidence. That’s why it was important for us to bring Dual Balance technology to each of our families.”
Milled from 303 Stainless Steel, the Newport 2 Dual Balance (36-40 inches in length) is Cameron's most popular model on TOUR. The modern blade features crisp back angles and a single black sight line for alignment. The Newport 2 head is slightly larger than the conventional model to accommodate the additional 50 grams that bring the head to 400 grams total.
Like Futura X Dual Balance, Newport 2 has a 38-inch Dual Balance Flat Front Winn grip with 50 grams of extra weight in the butt end to achieve the counter balance feel.
GoLo 7 Dual Balance (36-40 inches in length), milled from 303 Stainless Steel, is an easy-to-align mallet that has a single black sight line that helps square the face. The rounded profile features a soleplate design with 50 grams of additional weight housed inside the plate that boosts the head weight to 400 grams. The conventional version is hollow under the soleplate.
GoLo 7 also has a 38-inch Dual Balance Flat Front Winn grip with 50 grams of additional weight in the butt end.
Both putters have deep-milled faces that improve sound and feel, and a Silver Mist finish with "race-car inspired," framed double-milled cherry dot graphics in the back and sole.
Scotty Cameron's Select Newport 2 and GoLo 7 Dual Balance putters will be available May 30 and retail for $400.
