LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Is Ron Burgundy a golf fan? We may find out this week as the PGA TOUR plays just outside of San Diego (It's pronounced San De-ahh-go).
Typically, professionals have wedges custom grinded to suit their needs, and oftentimes initials or nicknames are stamped on the outside of the wedges by the various equipment reps on-site at TOUR events. With his next start at this week’s Farmers Insurance Open, it was only natural that second-year TOUR professional Morgan Hoffmann request that movie quotes from Anchorman, a fictional comedy staring Will Ferrell, be stamped into his Titleist wedges.
Yes, If you look closely at Hoffmann's 52-degree wedge, it proclaims YOU STAY CLASSY SAN DIEGO. The 62-degree wedge? THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY. The 58-degree wedge? I LOVE LAMP.
“We are always quoting Anchorman, I was just trying to have fun with it,” said Hoffmann after a first-round 70 on the South Course.
His review of Anchorman 2? “I still haven't seen it,” he said.
