  • CHAMP expands offering with new C-Grip

By Jonathan Wall, PGATOUR.COM Equipment Insider

ORLANDO -- Champ is officially joining the grip market. The leader in golf spikes has expanded its offerings in recent years to include tees and accessories, and after years of designing and testing announced the addition of a new grip line that will include five different models.

The C-Grip line places an emphasis on design and technical innovation with new materials that have been developed to maximize feel, comfort and playability.

Champ's C8 ($16 per grip) is a Tour-level grip that comes in eight colors and features a new Japanese Thermoplastic Olefin (TPO) compound material infused with Kevlar -- Champ added Kevlar to its Zarma FLYtee PRO tee last year -- for torque control and durability.

According to Champ, the addition of Kevlar allows the grip to last up to 20 percent longer than a standard rubber grip.

To give it a tacky feel, a special compound was added that gives the grip a non-slip feel, while an anti-shock wrap provides a comfortable feel and shock absorption at impact.

The C8 grip has been on TOUR since the end of last year and was recently tested by, among others, PGA TOUR winners Jordan Spieth and Matt Kuchar.

C6 ($10 per grip) has a similar look to Golf Pride's New Decade Multicompound with the two-tone rubber. The grip comes in non-cord, half-cord and full-cord options with extra support in the upper hand area that dampens vibration and provides improved gripping in all weather conditions.

Along with C8, the C4 ($6) is the other model that's received interest from TOUR players. The all rubber grip features a diamond and curve design that enhances control and feel, and hand position guide lines that helps with alignment.

C2 ($4) is an entry-level all rubber grip that comes with the company's diamond design pattern for comfort and control.

The final addition to the line is Champ C1, a pistol putter grip that's available in three sizes -- small (65 grams), medium (75 grams) and large (85 grams) -- and has a unique radius and flat front design. The grip is made with a soft, lightweight polyurethane material for feel; it also has a diamond and line grip pattern that increases control in all weather conditions.
