Ernie Els will have a new footwear sponsor next season after
agreeing to a multi-year agreement with ECCO golf that will see him wear ECCO's
hybrid golf shoes next season, and sport the company's logo on his headwear.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“ECCO has clearly struck on the winning formula,” Els said. “They make shoes that look great, are incredibly comfortable, can be worn almost anywhere and offer the kind of stability a guy like me really needs on the course.”
Els' decision to sign with ECCO shouldn't come as a surprise. The four-time major winner has worn ECCO shoes in the past, including the Tour Hybrid Wingtip and BIOM Hybrid as recently as last season.
“Ernie’s style, iconic swing and incredibly gracious
personality make him one of the game’s truly unique figures,” said Jesper
Thuen, ECCO's global sponsorship manager. “He’s been a big fan and supporter of
ECCO since the dawn of the hybrid golf shoe revolution, and will now be a very
high-profile ambassador for years to come.”
Els has been in the news for his equipment over the last month, after he was spotted using Titleist's Pro V1x at The Presidents Cup and TaylorMade's Lethal at the CIMB Classic. One report went so far as to suggest Els was leaving Callaway at the end of the year for a new equipment company.
