MORE: The Greenbrier Classic transcripts archive Q. Vijay, great start to the tournament, 7-under par 63. Just comment on a good round.

VIJAY SINGH: Gosh, I don't know where that came from. I've been playing pretty good golf for a while but just never got any scoring going. But today seemed I hit it close and drove the ball really well, hit a lot of greens and made some nice putts.

Q. Conditions good obviously for scoring this morning??

VIJAY SINGH: Yeah. If you hit good shots to the green, you're going to have a lot of birdie chances, a lot of short holes where you can hit wedges, 9-irons and 8-irons close, so that's what I did.

Q. (Indiscernible) crowd out there?

VIJAY SINGH: I'm sorry, say again?

Q. How was the atmosphere, the crowd??

VIJAY SINGH: They were good. I think they're all following Tiger on the other side, so it was pretty calm on my side. But no, it was good. I think they're all enthusiastic about this tournament and it was nice to have them around.

Q. Were there any advantages to getting out early this morning? Obviously the soft greens and everything may have helped. Is there an advantage you may have used today?

VIJAY SINGH: A little bit. I think it was cooler. Get out of this -- the sun's out now so the guys going in the afternoon will be much warmer. It was cooler and it was light breeze, so it was good scoring conditions.

Q. Greens a little softer today??

VIJAY SINGH: A little bit, yeah. We played yesterday, it was soft, so we're kind of used to it. But they're putting great and the pins were not easy but accessible.

Q. 63's always good, Vijay, but good especially on this first day to get your confidence going??

VIJAY SINGH: Yeah, you know, it's my first good round of the year, I would say, that I felt really comfortable with. It's a good way to start a tournament. I'm looking forward to the rest of the week.

Q. Vijay, congratulations, a great opening round today, wonderful finish. Started with you threw in, what, a 36-footer on 15 and then a birdie on in??

VIJAY SINGH: Yeah, I missed about a five-footer on 15 or 14? 14, yeah. And then made that bomb on 15 to kind of -- you know, I said, well, it made up for the last one. And played, you know, hit some good shots coming in. Had a great bunker shot on 17 and hit it close on 18.

Q. A lot of good low numbers in this opening round. Does this -- tell me about the course conditions. Is this a little bit surprising??

VIJAY SINGH: Well, the greens are receptive to good shots, so if you hit good shots to the pin, they're going to stop, they're not running like they did on Tuesday before the rains came. But you hit good shots on these greens, you go in with a lot of short irons. Anytime you're on the fairway and going with a short iron, you going to hit it inside of six, eight feet with the greens as good as they are, you're going to have a good chance of making it.

Q. I think this is, what, the ninth tournament in the last 10 weeks for you? You've been very busy. The status of your game coming in, were you expecting this?

VIJAY SINGH: Yeah, I've been expecting it for a while but it never showed up. Hopefully it keeps going. I don't feel tired, I feel really energized. I've been working really hard on my game, so it's nice to see something happen.

MODERATOR: Well done today, good luck tomorrow.

VIJAY SINGH: Thank you.
